So, I was riding along....

...taking advantage of the glorious weather and this happens:



My first thought; Argh, my frame! Luckily, no damage to the drop-out, but as you can see from the photo, one broken rear mech!

I was on my way home after the Sunday morning MTB ride had finished early and I’d decided to go back via the Punch Bowl. I’d got as far as Rodborough Common when the mech gave-up and split in two. Luckily, I had my multi-tool on board, so I split the chain and went single-speed and decided to carry on, rather than cut the ride short. A little frustrating on the downs as the chain kept coming off on bumps as there wasn’t enough tension. Still, a great day for a ride regardless!

wow. so it just fell apart?

Not too sure how it happened. There wasn't a branch or anything stuck in the wheel/chain and I wasn't riding hard/fast at the time.

Presumably that was from your P7, Greg? How old was it?

Hope you had a good ride yesterday. Spent four hours driving back down the A12 from Suffolk in the sunshine yesterday, wishing I was out with you lot

Yep, the mech was from the P7, so was about 2 years old. Luckily, I have a spare XT mech in the parts bin, though I don't remember buying it

There was 5 of us for the Sunday ride, and we had Lee (on his CX bike) and Heinz leading from the front, so it was a fairly quick ride We're back by 11am and I think we covered about 18miles.

greg - are the jockey wheels ok (or one of them at least). if your gonna bin them would be happy to take them off your hands as they are probably better than the ones on one of my bikes...

I'll check tonight, but I think it's a bit 'ninja-star' shaped

LOL. I had looked at them before, but I'll limit the gold bits to what's on the bike already, or I'll end-up look like a member of Goldie Lookin Chain...
